3 Toilet Warning Signs That You Need a Pro

It’s probably the bathroom fixture you least want to focus on, but there’s no arguing that the toilet is one of the most important items in your home. Under normal circumstances, it should last you for decades with only basic maintenance. However, there are many instances where an experienced and local Brevard plumber such as Anchor Plumbing might need to pay a visit to your home in Indialantic, or anywhere in Brevard County to check out the toilet. Here are three warning signs that you need to call in the professionals.

The Toilet Wobbles

A toilet should be firmly installed on the floor, and it should not wobble when you sit down. If yours does move, it’s a sign that there’s something going very wrong. It might be something as simple as a loose nut, but it could be as serious as damaged subflooring due to an unnoticed water leak. There are also other considerations here, such as the need to replace the wax ring under the toilet if it has moved too much and the old ring has been damaged. This isn’t something that you should tackle on your own – if your toilet wobbles, call in a professional plumber to determine the cause and get things fixed correctly.

The Phantom Flush

Ever notice that your toilet is running for no particular reason? Does your toilet seem to start and stop filling by itself? This is called “phantom flush”, and it has to do with a leak from the toilet’s tank into the bowl. As water leaks from the tank to the bowl, the level drops, and eventually it will trigger the refill mechanism. The most common reason for the leak is a bad flapper, although a damaged flapper seat can also cause the issue. The flapper will need to be replaced to fix the issue.

Water on the Floor Near the Toilet

Yes, water on the floor by your toilet might be nothing more than a sign that your toddler was having a little too much fun, but it can also be a sign of a leaking seal. The problem is that there are at least five seals on the average toilet that have the potential to fail and leak. Finding the leaking seal can be hard or even impossible for those without the right training. And leaving the leak to sort itself out is never a good idea. In the best case scenario, your water bill will go up. In a worst case scenario, the water might actually damage the subfloor under your toilet and lead to significant repair costs.

If you’ve noticed any of these three signs, or you’re experiencing other toilet-related issues, it’s time to call on our experiences plumbers to fix it.  Remember, an expert plumber can accurately diagnose the problem and generally repair it very quickly saving you time and money.
